The After School Program has been established to provide a healthy, safe, and enriching environment for the children of St. Peter’s School. Our goal is to complement the values and skills being taught at school. We provide for the child’s physical, educational, and spiritual needs by maintaining high quality role models and teaching skills that promote positive interaction.

After School begins on the first day that school is in session

Hours of Operation
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday
3:15pm – 6pm

Wednesday:
12:30 – 6pm

If school closes early due to inclement weather, the After School program will remain open until parents are able to arrange for pick-up.

If School is closed, no After School will be provided.

Enrichment Classes
There are additional activities offered during After School at an additional cost. Please see the enrichment packet (a 13-page pdf download) for class list, dates, times and locations.
Arts and crafts are provided free of charge
. Snack will be included for all students.

A registration form must be completed in order for your child to enter the After School program including students attending for emergency childcare.
Please Note: Students are enrolled for the entire year.

Tuition/Fees
Please contact the After School program for current tuition.

Tuition/Fee Payments
Tuition is due by the first of each month (with the exception of Oct 3, Jan 3, and April 3). A late fee penalty of $25 will be assessed if payments are not made within five days of the due date. (Late fee date is the 7th of each month, with the exceptions of January 9th and May 5.)  Note that you do not make a June payment if the child has been enrolled full or part-time from September through the end of the school year.

Accounts 30 days outstanding will result in termination of After School services and reports will be held. If your account from the prior year is NOT PAID IN FULL, your child (ren) will not be accepted into the After School program. It is distressing for both the child and the After School staff to turn a child away because of delinquent fees, so please make arrangement for your account to be brought up-to-date or for your child to be picked up until account is current.

There is a $25 returned check fee. After the first returned check, ALL future payments must be cash or money order.

Absences/Vacations
Please notify After School on the day that your child will be absent from the program. Credit will not be given for absences except in case of illnesses that exceed one week. You will receive credit for absences due to illness that exceeds one week. The credit adjustments will be applied towards the next month’s bill.

When your child’s absences exceeds one week, a doctor’s note stating that your child is able to return, must accompany them to After School before the child will be allowed to return to the program. There are not credits for absences due to vacations.

Refunds
There will be no refunds due to student absenteeism except in case of extended illness or change of plans. Staff, hours, salaries, and school budget are dependent on the number of students enrolled in the After School Program.

Emergency Attendance Fee
In the event of an emergency and childcare is needed for a non-registered day, please call and notify the director (202) 544-2658.

Late Pick-up Fee
It is extremely important for both children and staff that you are on time picking up your child from After School. If an emergency occurs and you anticipate that you will be late in picking up your child, please arrange for one of the authorized adults on your child’s emergency contact form to pick up your child by 6pm.

Please Note: The late fee rate is $25 the first 5 minutes and $2 per each additional minute after 6pm.
This fee is due at time of pick-up.

If your child is picked up late more than three times during the school year may result in termination of services.
Please Note: Any child who is not picked up by 3:20pm (12:50 on Wednesday) will go directly to the After School program and will be assessed the emergency childcare rate.

Homework
Homework is a vital part of After School. An After School staff member will spot check completed homework only. It is the parent’s responsibility to check homework for accuracy.

Playground Rules
During After School programs, the playground is under the supervision of an After School Staff member. Students are expected to observe the rules of safety and consideration for others.
The playgrounds consist of the blacktop areas only.

Students are not to wander down steps, into alleys, driveways, or into roads to retrieve balls for any reason. Parents are strongly encouraged to help all students observe these rules.

Students are not allowed to roller skate, ride bikes, or skateboard on the playground. Students must provide their own sturdy bike lock. Neither school nor After School is responsible for lost or stolen skates, bikes, or skateboards.

Emergencies
In the event of an emergency, an After School Staff member will make every effort to contact the parent(s) or an authorized adult. If the parents or an authorized adult cannot be reached, the staff member will pursue emergency medical treatment in the child’s best interest while continuing efforts to contact the parent(s) or an authorized adult.
It is the parent’s responsibility to keep the information on the child’s emergency contact form current. Please submit any changes on the emergency contact form in writing to the After School Office
.

Illness
Children who become ill during After School will be made as comfortable as possible until a parent or an authorized adult can be notified to pick-up the child by 6:00pm.

Discipline
Children enrolled in the After School program are expected to observe the same standards of conduct that prevail in the school. The After School staff will handle infractions as they occur. Serious violations will be referred to the Director and will result in suspension from the After School program. Children who cannot meet these standards will not be allowed to attend the program.
Please refer to the school handbook for complete details.

General Housekeeping
Students are responsible for cleanup. Children are expected to participate in some aspects of room care just as they do in their classrooms.
Children have a duty to clean up after snack, and lunch, as well as put away toys, games, P.E. equipment, and their own belongings.
If parents arrive before 6:00pm, we ask that the children be allowed to finish their clean up duties.

Pick-up
Parents picking up students from After School should park on E Street at the side of the school. Parking is permitted on E Street after 4:00pm.

Parents are advised that the back parking lot is for the use of staff ONLY and may not be used FOR ANY REASON OR ANY LENGTH OF TIME.
Please Note: the back parking lot area provides access for trash pick-up and emergency vehicles. Parents are not permitted to use this area for the pick-up or drop-off of students.

NO PARKING ON THE PLAYGROUND AT ANYTIME.
There will be a cone barrier across the entrance of the lower playground.

For your child’s safety, we require that children leaving the program be signed out by an authorized adult on the child’s emergency contact form. Please do not sign out your child from the program without informing the After School staff member.

Please Note: Children will not be released to anyone not listed on their emergency contact form, unless other arrangements have been made in writing.

Parents must submit in writing permission for their child to walk home from After School. A child will not be allowed to walk home after dark or in inclement weather.
