St. Peter's Interparish School: Education and Inspiration

Learning and Caring for the Anacostia River

The Anacostia Project
We began the adventure with the beginning of the 2007 school year.  As part of our grant from the Anacostia Waterfront Corporation and DC Children and Youth Investment Trust, classes at St. Peter's follow each other with weekly hands-on experience every Thursday at the neighboring Anacostia River and its surrounding wetlands. planting in the mud Anacostia notes from 5th and 6th graders

Our 7th and 8th graders have conducted experiments at the Boat House near the Navy Yard. As a follow-on, our 5th and 6th graders made wetland plantings near RFK stadium.  Other teachers completed training with the Anacostia Watershed Society, incorporating both science and social studies aspects in their curriculum.  Mrs. Gina Pruitt (4th Grade) has spearheaded this project and we are grateful for all the work she has done to bring this grant to fruition.8th grade notes on Anacostia River
