St. Peter's Interparish School: Education and Inspiration

Parents and Students
Assignments
students preparing their homework Homework serves two purposes – to review what has been learned and to help teach responsibility by requiring students to follow through on an assignment and return it to school. Formal homework begins the second semester of first grade.

Guidelines for the amount of time students at various grade levels should spend on homework:
Grades 1 through 3 – thirty to forty-five minutes.
Grades 4 through 6 – one hour
Grades 7 through 8 – one and a half to two hours

On rare occasions, the length of time spent on homework may exceed these guidelines. If a student is routinely spending more time than stated in the above guidelines the teacher should be contacted.
