Child Protection Compliance
At St. Peter’s Interparish School, our children are very precious to us. We take seriously their safety and well-being. Volunteers who will be with the children in school and CYO programs must first be in compliance with the Child Protection Policy for the Archdiocese of Washington. The background check is confidential. We do not share this information with anyone, nor would any other agency be expected to share with us. For this reason, even if you have been through a clearance check with your employer, you must still submit to a background check through the Archdiocese.
1. Go online to www.virtus.org, set up an account for yourself, and register for training. At the training, you will receive a booklet to read. The back page must be completed and turned in. Do not turn it in at the training session. Turn it in to the office or directly to Mary Martha Rockwell.
2. Fill out the Application form.
3. Turn in your application to Mary Martha. She will log in to your account and say that the application has been submitted.
4. Call this number: 301.853.5363 to set up an appointment to be fingerprinted. YOU MUST HAVE RETURNED YOUR APPLICATION BEFORE YOU MAY SCHEDULE THE FINGERPRINTING.
5. Take the Background Check Authorization and Compliance Check List with you to the fingerprinting appointment. These forms authorized the criminal background check and provide more direction on what to bring to your fingerprinting session. Make sure to tell them the full, exact name you used to register for Virtus to avoid a duplicate registration. Bring the following to the fingerprinting appointment: authorization form, check or money order payable to CJIS ($36 for volunteer/ $42 for employee), and a valid photo identification. Turn in the yellow copy of your receipt to the office.
Call or email (mrockwell@stpetersdc.org) if you have questions.
All forms can also be obtained in the office.
We understand that this process is an inconvenience, but the program’s effectiveness in helping us to protect our children from abuse is invaluable. We thank you for your time and energy.
