PTO — Parent Teacher Organization
President: Sheila Walter Faison
Vice-president: Mary Masters
Treasurer: Thomas Jenkins
Secretary: Danica Petroshius
The Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO) strives to promote the welfare of students at home, in school, church, and community. PTO officers are elected each May to serve the following school year. The PTO provides invaluable fundraising activities throughout the school year. These funds help provide tuition assistance and monies for field trips, various materials, and equipment. All parents and faculty are automatically members of the PTO.
Serving as a forum for discussion and questions, the PTO meets in the school library four times during the school year during the evenings. Meeting dates for 2008/9 are planned for:
PTO MEETINGS—6 to 7pm Thursdays
Dates are also announced in The
GoldLetter. Group activities are provided for children of parents attending
the PTO meetings, at a one dollar charge. Parents may also count volunteer
hours for PTO attendance.
• Scrip - Volunteers sell
“scrip” which can be used as payment at a variety of area grocery
and retail stores. The PTO purchases these at a discount and sells them at
full face value. The difference is profit for the PTO.

• Grocery Receipts -
The grocery receipts program provides additional materials to the school.

• Gift Wrap Sale
This is the second largest fund-raiser for the school.
We
need your help in raising funds for St.
Peter’s through sales of beautiful gift
wrap, gourmet foods, and fabulous gifts.
Two ways to help St. Peter's - through catalog sales and online - last year’s effort raised
more than $8,000.
St. Peter’s makes 50 percent of the proceeds from our sales and these funds are used as the seed money for the auction, the biggest and most fun fundraiser of the year!
Out of town relatives and friends are able to order through the Sally Foster website that automatically credits orders All students receive prizes based on the number of items sold on line and from the catalog!
• Auction - The largest fund-raiser of the PTO is the annual school auction. Items are auctioned through both a silent and a live auction in conjunction with dinner. Merchants and St. Peter’s families are asked to contribute goods and services to be auctioned off. You can donate items or find someone to make the donation.
• Christmas Program - Dressed in their holiday finest, classes perform musical selections of the season. The program is followed by a Pot Luck dinner.
• Catholic Schools Week - Held early in the new year, Catholic Schools Week celebrates our heritage as a Catholic school and provides an opportunity for prospective students and their families to visit the school. Mass is celebrated at St. Peter’s Church and an Open House is held at the school. Students serve as tour guides. Parents volunteer their time to assist and speak with prospective families.
• Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheon - This annual event is held at St. Peter’s Church Rectory. The PTO provides food and assistance with this event. All parents are encouraged to attend.
• Science Fair
- All students in sixth through eighth grade enter
a science project.
Students
from all grades are encouraged to participate. Projects are displayed in St.
Peter’s Church Hall. Set-up occurs on a Wednesday, judging by volunteers
Thursday, and public viewing on Thursday evening. Students in grades 4 and
5 hold a separate mini Science Fair in the school multipurpose room.
• Field Day - This spring physical fitness event consists of different teams competing against each other in games of physical skill. Students dress in shorts with each team wearing a different color T-shirt. Parents are encouraged to attend, bringing a bag lunch, lawn chair, sunscreen, and plenty of water.
• Spring Yard Sale & Fun Fair - Considered the “best yard sale on the Hill”. The lower playground is used for the sale, which consists of books, clothes, toys, household items, etc. The upper playground is used for the Fun Fair where each class undertakes one game or sale table staffed by students and parents. A variety of food items, including hot dogs, hamburgers, and sodas are sold.
• Graduation -Graduation is held on Friday evening in early June. Mass is celebrated and eighth grade students receive their diplomas. Traditionally, seventh grade parents organize and host a reception in St. Peter’s Church Hall following the ceremony. All families are welcome to attend.
